Supporters of the bill were quick to condemn the actions of the websites. Ex-Senator Chris Dodd, MPAA’s chief executive, described the blackouts as an “abuse of power”. Ahead of the day’s action, Mr Dodd said: “It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.”
