Louis Helbig
“Raised in Williams Lake, British Columbia, Louis Helbig is an Ottawa-based artist specializing in aerial photography.
His work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States and Europe  and is held in collections worldwide. His work has been published in a  wide range of national and international periodicals and publications in  North America and abroad.
“Beautiful Destruction – Alberta Tar Sands Aerial Photographs,” is  his best known project. In this he uses his style, teetering between  documentary and abstract, to grapple with a controversial topic, not  through editorializing but by providing viewers the space to reflect,  imagine and think for themselves. It has won a number of awards.
He is presently working on a project on the sunken villages in the St  Lawrence River, where the Zebra Mussel has in recent years clarified  the water, revealing what was flooded 50 years ago by the St  Lawrence  Seaway.
